Fabulous lamp, except...

I love this lamp and it's medico-industrial vibe--it's strikingly sculptural and totally practical at the same time. The picture here doesn't quite do it justice; it's about six feet tall, and the opening of the shade is about the size of a basketball hoop.
The only problem is that it's fitted with a really crappy socket: I've ordered and assembled two of them, and both times, the threaded-metal insidey part of the socket has broken off the first time I screwed in a bulb. On this lamp, the metal doohickey in question is made from aluminum, not brass, and it's about as thick as a beer can. I've returned both, but ordered another; if next one is similarly flawed, I'll replace the socket at my own expense. That's how great this lamp is.

Nice chic look but a safety hazard?

This lamp has a very nice mechanical hipster chic look, almost imagine it could be found in a Manhattan warehouse flat with a higher pricetag. The springs that attach, 4 of them, don't secure very well - if you have any pets I would be especially careful. Note that this lamp is pretty large, the lampshade is about the size of a medium-sized fixture, and it stands more than 6' tall, very nice piece to have craned over a desk or reading chair.

On balance, I like the lamp a lot. It looks fantastic; a Luxo Sr. hanging out with your guests. My only quibbles are with the reach - the base joint doesn't pivot, though since it's screwed in, you can repoint the lamp by effectively loosening and tightening that connection. It doesn't feel great to do that, but it seems to work fine. The forward reach is also limited because the bottom half of the arm can only go back from the vertical, unlike desktop versions of the lamp. With those provisos, it's pretty great.
