Works well for a bedroom lamp on a night stand.

When I first got this, my first thought upon opening the box is "Wow! The lampshade sure is pink!" It's not a light pink, but a very deep pink. It will look good in a girl's room.
The lamp and shade was packed very well -- maybe a little too well, as there was tape *everywhere*! It took awhile to cut all the tape away, but then it was fairly easy to put together. Just pull the cord from the base of the lamp, which is of resin construction, but looks more like quality painted wood. Pulling the cord from the bottom brings the electric assembly (the part where you put the light bulb) to the top of the base, which easily screws into the top. Then place the pink shade on the base, which fits firmly -- much more firmly than any other lamp shade I've ever seen, which keeps it from wobbling around on the base. After that, screw in the light bulb, remove the plastic protector from the plug, and plug the lamp into any wall receptacle. The switch is a simple push switch that works for turning the light both on and off.
Turning the light on lightens the shade of pink a bit, but only a little. Another thing I like about this lamp... The wires that attach the shade to the base fit UNDER the light bulb. This means that you won't have any trouble fitting a spiral fluorescent bulbs into the lamp (something that is impossible in the older lamps in my living room).
All in all, this lamp is a hit, and I like it. The base is VERY sturdy -- this lamp won't tip over easily. The only drawback I could find is the excessive packaging (and all the tape that holds the lamp and packaging together). This does a very good job of protecting the lamp during shipping, but may be just a touch overkill.

Curious presentation

I got this because it looked like just the simple and elegant lamp to grace my rose guest room. Out of the box it looks discouragingly cheesy. I would say it's a nice lamp for a young girl's room. The lampshade is a lovely shade of rose. The base is plain, suits the simple shade nicely. If you purchase this, keep in mind it may come partially assembled, as this did. About 8 inches of cord and plug extend from the base. The rest of the cord and the bulb socket dangles out the top of the lamp base. To complete the assembly, you must pull firmly and with considerable strength until the bulb socket can be screwed into its hole at the top of the base. Then you can insert a bulb, so long as the bulb is no stronger than 60 watts (or you use the energy-saver flourescent bulbs). I go into this in such detail because the instructions which come with the lamp give you no guidance. I first thought it might have been broken.
And you'd be well advised to place the lampshade on the fully constructed lamp base, then insert and screw in the bulb. This is counter-intuitive, unless you happen to be a lamp maker. The resulting product is quite adequate. The assembly instructions are not. But the pink glow is flattering to most any complexion. At least that's what I understand from my fashionable friend who suggested I could use another lamp in my guest room.

Sturdy, well made lamp. The white base is a bit of a matte white, it looks slightly more glossy in the photo than the lamp does to me. The lampshade is satin-looking very pretty pink fabric although it doesn't appear that way in the photo. It produces a pink glow in the room and the lamp becomes more pink when it is on. Love it!
