I've never had a black lampshade before. I had assumed it would be completely opaque, even when the lamp was on (which, now that I think about it, may not be so good because then the lamp wouldn't put off a lot of light, but anyway). When the lamp is off, it looks great. When the lamp is on, though, the lampshade kind of looks like two layers of very thin material (like pantyhose) stretched taut. My husband likes it. I do not.
